Cadet of the Second Quarter Award

Congratulations to C/A1C Andrew Burd for receiving the Cadet of the Second Quarter Award.

July begins another quarter and a fresh start for everyone.

Remember testing and promoting, doing some community service, bringing a friend to a cadet meeting as well as recruiting a new member go into the criteria used to determine this award.

Keep working hard while we are not meeting in July.

Knife Policy For Cedar Mustangs

In your 24 hour packs you may only carry a Leatherman multi task tool or a swiss army type knife. No knives in sheaths will be allowed.

Make sure when you are putting your 24 hour packs together you do not include anything that is not approved.

Furthermore, no knives of any kind will be allowed at the cadet meeting or other usual Cadet activities.

Morse Code

Morse code is a type of character encoding that transmits telegraphic information using rhythm. Morse code uses a standardized sequence of short and long elements to represent the letters, numerals, punctuation and special characters of a given message. The short and long elements can be formed by sounds, marks, or pulses, in on off keying and are commonly known as "dots" and "dashes" or "dits" and "dahs". For emergency signals, Morse code can be sent by way of improvised sources that can be easily "keyed" on and off, making Morse code one of the most versatile methods of telecommunication in existence.

Cadet rank is earned not given. Only 10 % of the total cadet population in the Civil Air Patrol will earn the Mitchell. Only 1 % of the total cadets in the Civil Air Patrol will earn the Spaazt award.

About the Cadet Program

The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Cadet Program affords our youth with many opportunities to develop leadership skills through an aerospace program. The minimum age to join as a cadet is 12 years old; maximum age to join as a cadet is 18. Cadets can remain in the Cadet Program until they turn 21.

The program offers cadets the opportunity to:

1. Learn leadership skills
2. Attend flight training activities
3. Earn community service hours
4. Become Emergency Services Qualified and participate in actual USAF Search and Rescue Missions.
5. Build Résumés for college and Military Academies.
6. Attend national training academies.
7. Radio communications
8. Model rocketry
9. CPR & First Aid
10. Public Speaking
